Classroom Policies
Teacher and student conduct in this classroom flows from the roles of the teacher and the students. It is important for everyone to follow these policies and do their best to fulfill their classroom role to achieve the best learning atmosphere. If you have any questions or concerns about the classroom policies, please let me know.

Homework
In the sixth grade, students will most likely have homework every night—sometimes in more than one subject. It is our job as the parents and the teacher to work together to help your child succeed! If you every have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail or call.
Students are expected to complete homework neatly and to their best effort every day. Students that choose to complete all homework assignments for the week will get to play “Homeworkopoly” on Fridays.

Missing Homework
I believe that homework is necessary for practicing skills that have been learned or for enriching classroom experience. On the other hand, I don’t believe in overloading students with busywork! In many cases, homework is simply classwork that was not finished. I try to give ample time in class for the completion of assignments, but some students work more slowly and must finish at home.
I expect all homework and classwork to be turned in on time. Each quarter, each student will be given 3 “free passes” to stay in the Homework Survivor Club. The student will still be expected to complete the assignment but will not receive a grade penalty on the first 3 late assignments. Once a student has more than 3 late homework assignments, he/she will have to stay inside during recess until the assignment is completed. If the problem continues, the student, parent(s), and I will meet to create a solution to the problem.
In order to help students get their homework assignments done, students will use Google Classroom app, our website, and homework folder. They will keep track of the assignments on the planner app or a written planner. After they complete an assignment, they should place it in the front pocket of the folder. The homework folder includes the Weekly Reading Log which must be signed each week. I encourage parents to review the contents of your child’s homework folder and planner each night. As soon as your child walks in the door, they should turn in completed work.
When your child is absent and you would like the assignments, please leave a message with the office. I will have work ready by the end of the school day, or I can send it home with another student at your request. Your child will have as many days to make up the assignments as he/she was absent (excused absences only though!), so don’t feel like you must make an ill child do his school work.
When you know ahead of time that your child will be absent, please let me know as soon as possible, and I will TRY to have work prepared ahead of time. Don’t forget to fill out the “Advance Absence Approval Form” with the office!

Sign and Return Notices
In order to ensure that you receive important information throughout the year, I will require your signature on the following:
* Midterm Reports
* Detention Notices
* Report Cards
* Friday Folders
* Behavior Reports (where applicable)
In order to encourage students to return signatures in a timely manner, I give rider bucks. I have also found that a negative consequence works with those children who fail to take important information home. Therefore, this is my policy:
If the signature is returned the next school day, the child earns a rider buck.
If the signature is not returned the next school day, the child is reminded.
If the signature is still not returned the second day, the child receives a punch in his/her card.
